hallowed

written by evan young

i held your name like a flame in my jaw spat it at ghosts who forgot what we saw you were the match, i was the grief kissing you slow like a goddamn thief

and maybe i burned, but i burned in your light a holy collapse in the middle of night

you’re my hallowed—my altar, my flood i’d drown in your silence and call it love i keep writing you down, but it’s never enough if home is a wound, then you’re every cut

i begged you in poems i never could speak carved “don’t go” in the back of my teeth you said ruin me soft, so i ruined you loud built a cathedral out of screaming aloud

you’re my hallowed—my altar, my flood i’d drown in your silence and call it love i keep writing you down, but it’s never enough if home is a wound, then you’re every cut

i’m not looking for mercy just a bed where we bleed where the floor knows our secrets and the echoes still need

you’re my hallowed—my heartbeat, my proof the ache in my throat that still sounds like truth if i shatter again, let it be in your name i’ll love you in wreckage i’ll love you in flame
